The Sun is Medicine

The Sun is the Source.

The sun is pure light energy. Living with Hashimoto’s and EBV, there are times when my energy is not at its highest. The combination of fatigue and cloudy, cold weather is a recipe for mental fog. Many times when I fall into a funk, I know it will pass, and I always see the light on the other side. More times than not, that moment happens when I place myself in sunshine.

The Sun Is Medicine.

When rays of light are embraced presently, I feel a tapping on my soul’s door. Interestingly enough, the rays truly are making their way into my chemical makeup.

The sun stimulates release of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is the hormone that regulates mood in human beings. As our bodies absorb the UV B radiation from the sun, formulation of Vitamin D occurs. Production of Vitamin D3 is crucial for the human bodies absorption of calcium and phosphorus. These two elements also contribute to your bone and muscle health. In addition, Vitamin D stimulates serotonin and dopamine production, and, in turn, signals a happy, peaceful mood in the brain.

Sunlight is medicine, and it has true benefits for human health and functioning. It truly works wonders for us. The sun, along with the earth, is here for us to not only experience, but to support and nourish our wellbeing. The tools we need for health are right in front of us, and the sun is one of the most powerful of them all in my opinion.

If the sun is out, I encourage all to step outside for at least 10-15 minutes each day. No matter the temperature, exposure to sunlight will reground you.

Go dance in the sunshine,

Ra
