Real & Ra: conventional education and mental health

Education is the future. The future is something we cannot grasp, and when the human mind is faced with the unknown, there is a tendency to seek forced, external forms of relief. Today those “quick-fixes” come in all different forms; from creating a society based on material possessions, to the smaller situational scale of alcohol. For a relatable example, individuals reach for alcohol for a sense of comfort. There is subconscious correlation between alcohol and feeling good. This is due to dopamine being instantly released from the reward center in your brain when you consume alcohol. No matter how much or how often you drink, this is true simply due to the chemical interactions between alcohol and the human brain. Some hold the power of their mind when using alcohol, yet others become lost in the fog and lose power of their intention behind consumption. This is where the lines become blurred, the fog begins to layer. The reach for alcohol has been seen to comfort individuals in social settings. This is just one example of a substance being used for comfort. This is equivalent to an individual who purchases clothing to look good out of a rooted need to feel accepted by others; another form of external seek of comfort and peace.

These tendencies to seek external, immediate comfort have created a society based on material possessions and a plateau of happiness. It is my personal take that this plateau occurs because there is a lack of awareness of the eternal light and love that is truly within us all. These environmental expectations bring hardship upon children growing up in modern society.

There has been a noticeable and detrimental increase in the mental health issues within adolescents. It is my perspective that children, for the most part, are not all suffering solely due to mental health disorders. Many are struggling as a result of living in environments that do not celebrate their true values, their true talents. Education is meant to celebrate the natural talents of children and people. Instead, our society pressures individuals into what is deemed normal. Our society is curated on. what needs to be done or what people must accomplish…

but for what? to be “normal?”

I hate to break it to everyone but there is no normal. We are all our unique and our normals are what are normal to us as individuals. There is no sense in trying to box others into what you think to be true because that is where suffering stems from. Unlearn the term normal and take each being and each situation as is.

There is a lack of creative flow in the education system, along with a hole in teachings of true life values. While children are stressed about history class, some are simultaneously being bullied or struggling with their mental health to function in daily life. This is because there is lack of teaching how to connect with yourself, how to treat others, and how to embrace life presently. I propose education shifts its values and intentions for the betterment of humans.

Education is to celebrate the uniqueness of each being. Education is to develop individuals who see life clearly. Education is to provide tools so individuals feel empowered and self-supported during the face of adversity. Education is to teach that life is love, and to unconditionally love is to experience life for all it is.

Unconditional love of self brings peace and harmony because unconditional love means living free of judgement, comparison, and attachments.
